Alaknanda Institute for Performing Arts was established in 1990 with the sole purpose of promoting pure classical art and culture to the society.

The Institute has earned the reputation of being a hard core professional institute and also for training disciples into scholarship holders in the field of Kathak, Hindustani vocal music, Tabla, Guitar and Keyboard. Alaknanda Institute for Performing Arts has been successfully promoting the rich indian classical culture for over a decade. The institute is affiliated to Akhil Bharatiaya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai and also prides in being the examination centre for the East Delhi Zone. The performing art section under the Gandharva degree include kathak dance, hindustani vocal music, tabla and keyboard. The Art & Crafts department is affiliated to Bangiya Sangeeet Kala Kendra, Kolkata. The aim of the institute is not just to facilitate the students with the degrees but to give them the real essence of the art styles.

The students have been awarded scholarships by the Govt. of India in different fields. The artists have performed at national and international festivals. World Festival of Island Culture 2002 in JEJU, South Korea is one of them.


The institute not only firmly believes in teaching the pure forms of art but also infusing the culture of 'Guru-Shishya Parampara'. Every year 'Guru Purnima is celebrated hence making each disciple know the importance of the rich tradition and the valuable meaning behind such a relationship, thus following the institute's purpose of creating an environment focusing on the best training with essential principles, on the basis of which the Indian art form has been learnt all these years. Apart from this, the institute provides a platform for all the students to perform their talents.

Our Production - "Guru Bhakt Aaruni", a ballet based on the 'Guru Shishya' relationship - an important phase in a student life while undergoing an extensive training of existence, was presented by young and talented dancers and singers from our institute on 12th February 1997, thus giving the audience the 'rasa' of our vibrant culture. Ballet - 'Ratnakar Valmiki', which was presented on 21st November 1998, was appreciated by the audience and critics.

"MAHISASUR MARDINI-DURGA" presented on the eve of DURGA PUJA on 9th Oct. 1999 KRISHNA LEELA in 2000 made an impact on the audience and the media.

The institute has channeled out a choreographic troupe called 'Alaknanda Pravaha' which has been successfully performing in Delhi and all around India.
